Anchored VWAP

Anchored VWAP is a technical analysis indicator that calculates the average price a security has traded at during a specified time period, anchored to a particular starting point in time. It helps traders identify potential support and resistance levels.

The Anchored VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price) is a valuable technical analysis tool used by traders to assess price trends and identify potential entry and exit points. Unlike the traditional VWAP, which resets daily, the anchored VWAP allows users to set a specific starting point, known as the anchor, typically based on significant price events such as market reversals or key economic announcements.

To calculate the Anchored VWAP, one needs to determine the cumulative volume traded and the corresponding price over the specified timeframe following the anchor. This average price provides insight into the true market value of a security relative to its trading volume. For example, if a trader sets the anchor at a major support level and observes the price action, they can identify whether the asset is trading above or below its average traded price, indicating potential trading signals.

Traders often combine Anchored VWAP with other technical indicators to enhance their analysis and create a holistic trading strategy. Understanding this indicator's mechanics helps in making informed decisions based on market behavior.
