Trendline

A trendline is a straight line drawn on a chart that connects two or more price points, typically used to identify the direction of price movement over time.

Trendlines are fundamental tools in technical analysis used to represent the general direction of price movements within a financial market. They can be upward, downward, or horizontal, depending on the price action. An upward trendline connects a series of higher lows, indicating bullish sentiment, while a downward trendline connects lower highs, suggesting bearish trends. A horizontal trendline typically signifies a period of consolidation or indecision in the market.

To draw a trendline, traders identify significant price points on a chart and connect them. The more times the price touches the trendline without breaking through, the stronger the trendline becomes. For example, a common application is noting resistance or support levels that can guide trading decisions. Additionally, trendlines can help identify potential breakout or breakdown points, where price action may shift direction.

Trendlines are often used alongside other technical indicators to enhance trading strategies. However, like any analytical tool, they should not be solely relied upon, as market conditions can change rapidly.
