Slippage Tolerance

Slippage tolerance refers to the maximum price deviation a trader is willing to accept when executing an order, which can occur due to market volatility.

Slippage tolerance is a critical concept in trading, especially in fast-moving markets such as Forex or cryptocurrency. It specifies the maximum price differential a trader accepts when executing a market order. For example, if a trader places a market order to buy an asset at $100 with a slippage tolerance of 2%, they are willing to accept the trade if executed at prices up to $102. This is particularly relevant during periods of high volatility, where prices can change rapidly, leading to potential execution at less favorable prices than anticipated.

Traders can usually set slippage tolerance levels in trading platforms to manage execution risk. A narrower tolerance may lead to fewer filled orders in volatile conditions, while a broader tolerance increases the likelihood of order fulfillment but at potentially unfavorable prices. Understanding slippage and establishing appropriate tolerance levels can be crucial for effective risk management.
