Pivot Point

A pivot point is a technical analysis indicator used to determine market trends in various timeframes. It serves as a predictive level where the market may experience support or resistance.

A pivot point is a key technical analysis tool employed by traders to identify potential support and resistance levels in the market. It is generally calculated based on the high, low, and closing prices of a previous period, often the prior day. For example, the pivot point can be derived using the formula: P = (High + Low + Close) / 3. From this primary pivot point, additional support and resistance levels can be established, which are typically classified into first, second, and third levels of each.

Traders use pivot points to gauge market sentiment. If the price is above the pivot point, it is often viewed as bullish, suggesting a potential upward trend. Conversely, if the price is below the pivot point, it may imply bearish sentiment, indicating a downward trend. Pivot points are commonly utilized in Forex trading and can also apply to stocks, commodities, and indices. They are particularly useful for short-term trading strategies, where rapid price changes necessitate quick decision-making. Integrating pivot points with other technical indicators can enhance their effectiveness, offering traders a clearer picture of market dynamics.
