Capital Account

The capital account is a component of a country's balance of payments that records all transactions involving the transfer of capital, including foreign investments and loans.

The capital account specifically tracks the movement of funds used for investments, loans, and financial derivatives, differentiating it from the current account, which records income and payments related to goods and services. Transactions in the capital account can include foreign direct investment (FDI), portfolio investment, and other capital movements. For instance, if a company in one country invests in a factory in another country, this transaction would be reflected in the capital account as an outflow of capital from the investor's home country and an inflow into the host country.

Moreover, the capital account can indicate a country's financial position by showing how much foreign capital is entering or leaving the economy. A country regularly attracting foreign investments may showcase economic stability and growth potential, while a significant outflow could signal economic issues, influencing currency valuations.
